About Kathy Russell
My work is a mixture of my background. I grew up drawing and painting. In the 1980's I purchased my first camera and was hooked. I started out taking photos of friends that were in bands in Washington D.C. A number of my photos were used for albums. I was honored to have Barnes & Noble use one image as a book's back cover. My greatest love has always been horses, domestic animals, wildlife and birds. I retired and moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. I now had the time to really pursue my passion. Only using a camera to shoot the amazing wildlife in this area. My work is a combination of my photography and painting. I'm always learning and constantly changing my editing. I learned photography from trial and error. The only class that I have taken was through the Equine Photography Network, with Sherron Shepard. Art does run in my family though. My father was a fantastic painter, as was my grand father. I have been very honored to have images receive awards from the Equine Photographers Network. I placed first place in the world wide Chattanooga photography contest, in the creative category. I received 3rd place and honorable mention in the Light, Time and Space, animal photography contest. Coming in ahead of thousands of images from all over the world. An image received first place in the Virginia Photographer's Gallery contest. Numerous images have been published in the online magazine Kaleidos. I've also had images published in the Virginia Wildlife magazine. If someone is interested in an image you can purchase it through Fineartamerica or contact me directly. I have a number of excellent printing companies that I do business with. The prices may be more reasonable through me directly. This is my other website: http://kathyrussell.zenfolio.com/
